I use a few smart power plugs which include an ESP microcontroller, a relais, and a power meter. These run tasmota and report to home assistant (compare e.g. https://blog.koehntopp.info/2020/05/20/gosund-and-tasmota/)
Now I don't want to buy new plugs for all devices which I might measure for some time: Eg.g the fridge has a very constant energy usage, measuring it once per season suffices for all I want to know.
When re-using a smart plug for a different device, I'd like Home Assistant not to connect the two measurement histories. Just renaming the device in tasmota web interface is not enough, though: Home Assistant identifies the devices by something else (probably serial number) and would connect the histories / track the rename.
I have to:
- Remove the device in Home Assistant (Integrations > Tasmota > Select device > … menu)
- Rename via Tasmota Web UI (I change Device Name and Friendly Name, probably only one is enough)
- Only now reboot the Device
- Seconds later, it shows up in Home Assistant under the new name
